Claire Selby Cards

It’s not only a special time of year to celebrate love, it’s also time for Cards for Soldiers. We appreciate and honor our service women and men every year with cards for soldiers. Valentine’s Day is the perfect way to share the love and admiration. For my cards I got to play with decorative heart punches. It’s fun to layer the papers and punch random hearts! It’s even better to use double sided papers so you get more options. A Great way to use up small scraps. And don’t through away any extra hearts use them for confetti! Here are a few of my supplies-

1) 4.5″ by 6″ card, I usually make my own

2) A German Dresden Scrap angel and an Art Chix Flourish Postage image

3) Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™, it only takes a small amount and you want to smooth it out when applying.

4) Creative Memories Heart punches

5) Black paper from Stampin’ UP and Red paper from Close to My Heart.

6) Vintage sheet music scraps and red valentine heart for accents

Claire Selby baby card

This baby card began as a sweet Baby Fairy Post image from ArtChix that resembles my son. I then selected pink paper for my 4.5″ x 6″ card, and used paper from the Amy Butler Designer Charm 12″ paper pack. I glued the paper down in vertical strips using Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™. My little fairy man is then decorated with a glued on paper flower and a Close to My Heart decorative brad. Perfect for an invite, an announcement, or as a Thank you card.

Claire Selby One of a Kind Vintage card

On the 10th day of Christmas my true love decorated for me…. a Lord a Leaping Card! This dapper gentleman topped with a top hat & leaping through the air was found at the lovely Graphics Fairy site. For my Leaping Lord Card I decided to print the Air Balloon photo onto a mottled pale green marble paper. This gives black and white images a real vintage feel. I accented my card with shimmer paper and a vintage page, as well as Creative Memories circle punches. Everything was lightly glued with Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™, I like the glue to have an almost dry, tacky consistency when using on cards. I also decorated the side of the vintage ticket stubs with green staples and seam binding ribbon.

This Swan card started out as a winged beauty from Artchix Studio atop lots of paper scraps! I added the German Dresden Swan wings with Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™. The edges of the card are all Colorbox pigment inked. I also embellished the card with the rose ribbon and the Close to My Heart Crystal accents. She is a sparkling swan beauty ready for the New Year!

On the 6th Day of Christmas my true love hatched for me….a Just Hatched Baby Card! Lots of things came to mind during this season, not only the birth of Christ, but also our own newborn. Just thinking of that elusive Peace on Earth that we all try to attain, sometimes, seems so easy when we stop and just look at a baby sleep. Softly and sweetly! I was also inspired by the colors blue and gold which I used for my Christmas tree this year. The 6th day classically heralds in the geese laying eggs, so this little fella is just hatched! I used some of my Acid free Scrapbooking paper scraps left over to make the card, the Best way to recycle! I glued the Art Chix Studio Egg form and baby and butterfly cutouts to the card with Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™. I then drew the antennae and the baby string with a permanent marker. Fun, Festive and Hard to catch that peace when it is drifting away!

Claire Selby Red & White Cards

I got all of my Red and White tulle, mica flakes, vintage leaves and stamens, pompoms and papers out to make these Christmas Cards. I used a vintage postcard image from Somerset Studio and the faux postage Madonna from Art Chix Studio as my focal points. I cut out an ornament shape from Amy Butler scrapbooking paper for the Madonna card and glued onto the card along with the white tinsel using Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™. Let dry under a heavy book so the tinsel will stay flat. I finished it off with tulle and tiny pom poms! For the vintage style postcard card I used my creative memories decorative corner punch for the white paper. I then decorated with vintage millinery leaves and stamens to the bottom of the card and mica flakes to the corners! A great way to use up small scraps and left overs too! Claire Selby Handmade Ornament card with Tinsel

Christmas cards don’t have to be fussy or take long to create just to be pretty. They also don’t need to cost a lot when you can just recycle and reuse any papers and trims you have on hand. First, I cutout the ornament shapes from printed red paper using my pinking shears and glued them with Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™ to 2 red cards. Next, I cut 2 small pieces of tinsel and glued them down on top of the ornament cutouts, one silver and the other gold, letting them dry for an hour under a heavy book. The Art Chix Studio Madonna faux Postage and German Dresden wings were then lightly glued to the top of the tinsel. For the sides of the cards I attached left over trim and silver star tinsel by tying them into a knot. A great way to recycle papers, trims and small pieces of tinsel!

Claire Selby BABY Invite

I’ve always loved and collected Amy Bulter fabrics and papers, so to celebrate the arrival of baby no. 4 I got to crafting my Baby Shower invites and Thank yous using the Lotus collection. First, I cutout the Designer 12×12 paper and brown Stampin’ Up paper to size. Then I glued the baby elephant and flower to the middle of the card using Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™. Lastly, I tied a Stampin’ Up ribbon bow and glued that to the paper lightly. For the Thank yous, I used ready-made cards embellished with paper scraps and a tiny elephant accented with silver glitter.  My Baby Elephant Invite is available as a FREE For Personal use invite download. Earlier this month I got to host my first ever Pindilla ATC swap! I hope you will enjoy looking over the cards as much as we enjoyed making and receiving them! I can’t wait to hang all of the lovely cards on my Christmas tree this year. For my Arwen with a Glittered Wing ATC I covered the background with vintage paper and pink sheet music. You can download the free Vintage Sheet Music HERE for Personal use ONLY. Next, I glued down Arwen, the coral wing from Graphics Fairy, and an Art Chix butterfly using Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™. Claire Selby Stamped and Glittered BABY Card

My next Baby Project to share is a Stamped and Glittered card using foam alphabet stamps dipped into Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™ and sprinkled with glitter. I used scrapbooking acid free paper from my Belle & Lotus paper packs, pinked the edges with shears and added the fluerettes, flowers &  flower punch to the sides of the card. I loved mixing the reds, pinks and hot pinks. Sometimes reds and pinks can clash, but I think these were all a similar shade and blended nicely. It was fun getting out my paper stash and scrapbooking supplies for this project, I hope to share more soon.
