Day 13 of 20 days of Proverbs 31 ” She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen.” Proverbs 31:22 NIV
I wanted to sew Linen Ties long enough for tying a bow, but Pottery Barn Baby just knots their ties, so I did too!
I have a seam running right down the middle of my hexagon but you can hardly notice!
I’m obsessed with the Nigella and Lotus fabric collections by Amy Butler. Even though most of my favorites are retired I still seek pieces on the web and in stores. For my Baby Bumper pad I re-covered an existing baby pad and the hexagons from the Starflower Tiles fabric were the perfect height! For me washing & drying the bumper pad and then washing, drying, ironing, and cutting out the pieces was a 10 out of 10 in my book for difficulty because the pieces were so large. The only place to measure and pin and cut was on the floor. To line up the Starflower Tiles fabric just right also took a few tries to make sure that my Hexagons lined up exactly, this was more of a 7 on my scale of 10 for difficulty because I had to redo it.
How to Make a Ruffle out of Linen: I measured the top edge of my bumper and multiplied that measurement by 2.5 to get the length for the ruffle. My width was 5″ wide. I folded the Linen for my ruffle in half and stitched on the raw edge using a half inch seam allowance. I set my machine stitch length to the highest setting, on mine is a 4. And I set the feed dog tension to my highest setting, mine is a 6. This will automatically start to gather the ruffle for you.
That part was pretty easy and quick! I used Quilting thread to stitch the baby bumper pad, this was pretty quick also, just like sewing a long rectangular pillowcase. Make sure you leave an opening large enough for your arm to pull the pad through the new bumper cover.
The sweet crochet blanket is from Gerri Plummer Designs in Galveston, Texas. She loves making super soft crochet and knit Heirloom blankets for baby! And it works out great for me because I love everything vintage! I found the baby crib sheet at Babies R Us. Be sure to Like Gerri Plummer Designs and Pinkdilla on Facebook. Day 1 of Proverbs 31 ” A wife of noble Character who can Find?”
“She is Worth far more than Rubies”
“The price of wisdom is above rubies.” Job speaks of the attaining of wisdom as compared to the priceless quality of the ruby. The sayings King Lemuel’s mother taught to him were “a wife of Noble Character who can find? Her worth is above Rubies.” What is the compelling draw to the rare and flawless nature of this stone? Gemstones Guide plainly describes rubies as “extraordinarily valuable and highly esteemed.” How can we as wives, mothers and daughters resemble and exude these characteristics? Above Rubies is just such a website. Dedicated to strengthening women as wives and mothers, for 34 years living as examples, protecting and supporting that divine calling. Even on those days when we have to muster all of our strength just to complete the day we can draw further comfort from our Savior. “We need to know and believe just how mighty and aware of us God really is.” – Proverbs 31 Ministries paints a picture of the hardships that we as women daily face, yet we are not alone. We can also draw strength from each other. The Burmese believed that the nature of rubies was an Invulnerability. Wouldn’t having the quality of Invulnerability defeat the purpose of seeking wisdom? How can looking outside of ourselves refine us into the nature of a flawless gem? Job also asks this question, “Where can this wisdom be found?” His question is answered in the fear of the Lord as the beginning of our wisdom. Proverbs 31 ministries also shares that the right understanding of God’s power in our lives frees us from our burdens. We then can draw strength from him. Strength that he made us to have to the fullest. We are Rubies reflecting back those qualities of rarity, invulnerability, esteem, & beauty that he has given to us. We are above Rubies.
