It’s not only a special time of year to celebrate love, it’s also time for Cards for Soldiers. We appreciate and honor our service women and men every year with cards for soldiers. Valentine’s Day is the perfect way to share the love and admiration. For my cards I got to play with decorative heart punches. It’s fun to layer the papers and punch random hearts! It’s even better to use double sided papers so you get more options. A Great way to use up small scraps. And don’t through away any extra hearts use them for confetti! Here are a few of my supplies-

1) 4.5″ by 6″ card, I usually make my own

2) A German Dresden Scrap angel and an Art Chix Flourish Postage image

3) Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™, it only takes a small amount and you want to smooth it out when applying.

4) Creative Memories Heart punches

5) Black paper from Stampin’ UP and Red paper from Close to My Heart.

6) Vintage sheet music scraps and red valentine heart for accents

Claire Selby baby card

This baby card began as a sweet Baby Fairy Post image from ArtChix that resembles my son. I then selected pink paper for my 4.5″ x 6″ card, and used paper from the Amy Butler Designer Charm 12″ paper pack. I glued the paper down in vertical strips using Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™. My little fairy man is then decorated with a glued on paper flower and a Close to My Heart decorative brad. Perfect for an invite, an announcement, or as a Thank you card.

This worldwide day is a great way to meet other crafters and artists in your own area. It’s also a great way to pick up techniques for knitting, crocheting, quilting and paper arts. On the 12th Night of Christmas my True Love made for me…Paper Party Flowers to celebrate 2012! I saw some Paper Party Flower decorations from Martha Stewart years ago and decided to make my own interpretation of those. All it takes to make my flowers are-

1) 3 sheets of Anna Griffin 12″x12″ Scrapbooking paper, in Green and White

2) Pink Wire edge ribbon to connect them

3) scissors, tape runner and a hole punch

4) Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™

5) Ruler and bone folder to score

6) Velvet leaves, flowers and ornaments to trim with

Score lines on your paper and fold. Here are some measurements for Score Lines to get you going. Score at 2″ , 1  1/4″,  1 1/4″, 3″,  1 1/4″, 1 1/4″,  2″

Try them first on a scrap piece of 12″ paper before using your nice paper!

Use the Tape runner to secure the back flaps closed. This makes one Petal.

Score and fold in Half with the back flaps facing inward. This is your first Petal. 2 more to go!

Repeat these steps 2 more times until you have 3 folded petals all together. Now, using the hole punch make two holes side by side about an inch apart on the bottom of all 3 petals. Lay the petals on a flat surface with the ends that are hole punched facing inward. With the wire edged ribbon start to thread the ribbon through all three petals in the first row of holes, and then finish threading all 3 petals through the second row of holes. Pull the ribbon gently til the flower petals are all together and then tie a knot. Take your scissors and trim an arch shape on the edges of each petal, you can use a template, draw it on or just line up each edge to the previous one to make sure they are even. Gently fan out the edges of each flower petal.  To finish, glue your petals, flowers and ornaments on to decorate!

On the 11th day of Christmas my True Love Scrapped for me…a 2011 Scrapbooking Page! I finally got to take pictures of my page celebrating eleven and what better way to do that than celebrating the actual year ’11! Clocks, stars, champagne glitter and tinsel-like gold trim all ring out the old year in style.

Here’s some of the supplies I used for my page-

Claire Selby One of a Kind Vintage card

On the 10th day of Christmas my true love decorated for me…. a Lord a Leaping Card! This dapper gentleman topped with a top hat & leaping through the air was found at the lovely Graphics Fairy site. For my Leaping Lord Card I decided to print the Air Balloon photo onto a mottled pale green marble paper. This gives black and white images a real vintage feel. I accented my card with shimmer paper and a vintage page, as well as Creative Memories circle punches. Everything was lightly glued with Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™, I like the glue to have an almost dry, tacky consistency when using on cards. I also decorated the side of the vintage ticket stubs with green staples and seam binding ribbon.

On the 9th Day of Christmas my true love assembled for me…a dancing lady Paperdoll! This Festive gal has lots of style, in her bright pink dress to her almost Zebra like tights, she is ready for dancing! My Dancing Paperdoll started out as an Artchix Studio image that I adorned with German Dresden white wings for a feathery bonnet! Turned upside down the wings made me thing of Odette’s headpiece from Swan Lake! For the arms I recycled a West Elm fabric swatch by gluing it to cardstock with Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™ and then cutting out the upper and lower arms once it dried. The legs were vintage calligraphy pages also glued to cardstock, but I chose to cut these out as one piece. The dress is also Recycled from an Amy Butler scrapbooking paper scrap. I added the pretty tartan ribbon printed from Sandra Evertson’s book. And to finish her off, she is festooned with a glittered garland cutout from a Martha Stewart glittered card kit. She is truly an assembled lady, it feels great recycling things I have and repurposing items I own to make something new!

Although I’ve been having slow computer problems the 8th day was ready to share! The Maids a Milking brought to mind a pastoral scene, so here are 2 vintage Denmark photos as a Free Download for Your Personal Use Only! No sharing on blogs as a download, but you may share as a link. Not for sale or giveaway as in a collage sheet or altered art. Only for use in personal artwork, not for sale. These look great printed on Transparency sheets in sepia tone! I printed mine on sheets found at Fry’s and Office Depot. This Swan card started out as a winged beauty from Artchix Studio atop lots of paper scraps! I added the German Dresden Swan wings with Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™. The edges of the card are all Colorbox pigment inked. I also embellished the card with the rose ribbon and the Close to My Heart Crystal accents. She is a sparkling swan beauty ready for the New Year!

On the 6th Day of Christmas my true love hatched for me….a Just Hatched Baby Card! Lots of things came to mind during this season, not only the birth of Christ, but also our own newborn. Just thinking of that elusive Peace on Earth that we all try to attain, sometimes, seems so easy when we stop and just look at a baby sleep. Softly and sweetly! I was also inspired by the colors blue and gold which I used for my Christmas tree this year. The 6th day classically heralds in the geese laying eggs, so this little fella is just hatched! I used some of my Acid free Scrapbooking paper scraps left over to make the card, the Best way to recycle! I glued the Art Chix Studio Egg form and baby and butterfly cutouts to the card with Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™. I then drew the antennae and the baby string with a permanent marker. Fun, Festive and Hard to catch that peace when it is drifting away!
